A veritable toddler to the Liberty League, Juan Laurel just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for August.
Over the past month the 24-year-old first baseman for Birmingham hit .333 with 22 hits, 3 home runs and 14 runs batted in. He also logged 11 walks and compiled a .438 on-base percentage.
In 2007 Laurel has produced 119 hits in 428 at-bats for a .278 average with 17 home runs and gotten on base at a .344 clip.

| Wednesday, August 1st, 2007: July's Outstanding LL Rookie Announced
What a fantastic July it was for Juan Laurel! The Birmingham first baseman battered Liberty League hurlers for a .333 batting average as he easily claimed the Rookie of the Month Award.
He tallied 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 12 runs scored in the month-long assault. Laurel also had 4 walks for a .356 on-base percentage.
If he continues to outpace the rookie class like this, he could very well be the 2007 Platinum Rookie winner.
Laurel is hitting at a .268 mark this season. His stats show 14 home runs, 57 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He has played 102 games for the Bandits.

Allegedly, Ogden Bright has asked to be traded from Birmingham. It is rumored that he is unhappy with fans and the team management and that maybe the pressure and demands of playing here are too great.
